Don Imus contraversy

1. According to the NAACP, why should Imus be silenced?

Because his comments were racist and sexist, and they should not allow comments like that should not be said on televsion.

2. According to Frank Rich, why should Imus not be silenced?

Because he has freedom opf speech, and he doesn't make fun of a certain group of people, he makes fun of everyone.

3. Do you think Imus should be silenced? Why?

Not really, and maybe its because I don't get easily offended, but I think comments like that are OK. You are not being made to watch the show. You can get the remote and flip it to another channel. If on the other hand, you are being made to listen to racist comments that apply to you, and you are being forced, there is a problem. He has freedom of speech though, and you have the freedom to change the channel. Plus if the rutgers girls even said themselves that they werent upseted that much by the comments and that he is forgiven so it should not be a problem.

1Q) What is your reaction to the ending of the section? What is good and/or bad about the type of society outlined by Socrates?

1A)I think that what he is doing by restricting the arts so much will have bad effects on the men. Because what he is really doing is constricting the men's creative release, and by doing so he will plant seeds of rebellion. In the end, it would probably help further the end of his utopian society. Pretty soon afterwards, they men will realize they do not believe in the restrictions, and start acting of their own accord. Whether that would be good or bad is unknown to me, but one things is for sure. Constrictions such as this are only there to be broken.
